I create my figures directly from the material, without plans or sketches.
The material is generally stone or wood, but my drawings and prints are also made spontaneously. That gives me more freedom when I start work. The process of creation is subject to all kinds of subconscious influences - from things I have seen, or heard or read, from the material itself and my own moods and impressions.
The finished work bears the traces of the tools used in its making. Some parts are also left unworked, with the material in its natural state. These different structures animate my figures, which have their own body language, deriving from their clearly emphasised hands, feet and heads.
I avoid giving names or titles to my finished works, so that viewers can form their own impression and explore the thoughts and feelings that emerge from the encounter.
